With an increased stress on environmental friendly and energy efficient technologies making a home more green energy efficient has become easy as well as cost effective. So if you are thinking of some simple ways to save up on electricity bills you can bring in some smart changes to your home by making it more eco friendly and end up in saving up a considerable amount of money on the long run.

The term green energy basically refers to the usage of heating and cooling devices which use much less energy or renewable energy such as solar and wind which is environmental friendly as well as cost effective. Contrary to popular belief installing energy efficient devices in one’s home does not involve a huge investment as there are a numerous companies in the market offering green energy solutions for homes at highly competitive and bargain prices. The following section lists some convenient ways by which you can make your home more green energy efficient:

1. Install a solar water heater: Installing a solar water heater is a great way to turn your home more green energy efficient. While purchasing a solar water heater from the market can be expensive one can also build their own solar powered heaters at relatively low prices.

2. Put up photovoltaic solar panels: Using the sun’s renewable energy and converting it into electric power can be easily done by putting up photovoltaic solar panels on the rooftops of your home.

3. Opt for a domestic windmill: If you live in a windy area, installing a domestic windmill or a wind turbine is another great way to generate power through wind energy.

4. Switch to passive solar technology: If you are constructing a new home you can make it more green energy efficient by using bricks that are made of insulated materials, installing energy efficient doors and windows as well as deigning the home to allow the optimum passage of natural light into your rooms.

5. Build a compost pit in your garden: A great way to recycle your biodegradable kitchen waste and make your garden area more green and fertile is by building a compost pit.

Turning a home green energy efficient involves utilizing renewable energy such as sun, wind and water into power through innovative technologies which are easily accessible in today’s times for domestic use. So go ahead and do yourself and the environment a great favor by adopting a more eco – friendly lifestyle by turning your home more green energy efficient.

If you have used tires and you don’t know precisely what to do with them, it’s critical to find a method to reuse or recycle them to minimize the amount of waste or trash that people dispose of in the dumpsites, landfills, and junk yards, that are currently full of a lot of other types of waste.

Most likely the best way to reuse your used tires would be to use them as a spare (or multiple spares) for your vehicle after you buy brand new tires. Obviously there has to still be some tread on the used tire for it to be functional. In the event you don’t want to do that, you could simply sell them on the internet or at a yard sale.

An additional great way to get rid of used tires would be to take them to a drop off center to be recycled. Tire companies really encourage their buyers to do this. You’ll find particular locations at your community recycling center or you can just take them to a nearby vehicle parts store and they’ll dispose of them properly.

If you have kids and a good tree in your front yard or back yard, you could easily make use of a tire swing. Simply cut some holes around the edge of the tire and put good thick rope through them that’s strong enough to hold someone (also make certain the branch is secure), hang it from the tree, and you have got a good tire swing. You could also let your children paint it to their preference.

You can also make a planter using an old tire. Cut the interior edges from the tire in little triangles to make jagged edges and turn the tire inside out. Paint it with a nice color and fill it with soil. Plant a flowering plant or other kinds of ornamental plants within the planter and set it in your garden.

Compact Fluorescent Lights have been making a declaration to being the alternate for the incandescent light for sometime now, nevertheless, they are not the answer that everyone had wished for. Now with the arrival of LED lighting, CFLs have been bettered in all areas together with aesthetic design and performance.

Critics point out that LED lamps are very expensive. Search deeper and you will see a weak case. LED lights last longer than 30,000 hrs and spend a portion of the power utilized by both incandescent bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs. The higher one time expenditure of LED lighting is recovered in a few years in terms of energy savings alone. The financial returns on your expenditure in LED lighting solutions may be as high as eighty percent each year! And what’s the threat – nothing more determined than the stares of envious friends. The financial market may go boom or bust, your LED lightswill proceed in money saving mode for yrs. If there’s a higher choice possibility around, the earth has not heard of it.

Carbon footprint balancing and living off the grid become that much cheaper with LED lights. The actual panacea to a carbon neutral life-style is to scale back the carbon footprint as much as doable. After all replacing a single bulb with power efficient LED lights can deliver carbon emission reductions of greater than 5 tons per year and be sure that fewer photo voltaic panels need to be put in to serve to lighting requirements.

With modern LED lamps solutions obtainable off the shelf there is hardly an argument in opposition to introducing your light lamp to the future today.

Receiving without resistance is the definition of passive. It is also the main component of passive solar energy as a home receives the sun’s energy and does not resist. True passive solar energy means no moving parts…fans, pumps, mechanical or electrical elements are not required. In a solar passive home you will sometimes find fans to help distribute air evenly throughout the building space, but expect it to be solar powered.

Passive solar energy doesn’t even require the help of photovoltaics (PV’s). With careful home design and planning, walls, windows, and floors can be used to collect solar energy in the winter and disperse it effectively. In a basic passive solar design, large south-facing windows are used to collect solar energy as the sun shines on the windows. Then, the heat, or energy, is distributed and stored in concrete, tile, stone, brick, or water, called thermal mass. When it is no longer sunny, the heat stored in the thermal mass is distributed throughout the building via the thermal mass. In the summer, passive solar energy systems are designed to utilize roof overhangs and awnings to reject heat in the summer.

Coming from Roman and Greek cultures, our passive solar home designs today very much mimic their work in calculating the best use of the sun’s energy.

Even though it made sense to take advantage of passive solar energy all those years ago, it makes even more sense now. The Greeks and Romans were then, as we are today, driven by diminishing resources for fuel and energy. Depending substantially on wood to heat their homes, the nearby forests began to disappear, and using the high intellect known then to exist, they discovered how to take full advantage of solar energy. As originally discovered by the Greeks and Romans, we, too, can eliminate or supplement our need for non-renewable energy sources by taking full advantage of passive solar design.

Passive solar energy is extremely clean. It’s also totally renewable and doesn’t emit greenhouse gases. By design, a passive solar energy home will maintain an even temperature throughout, and generally touted by homeowners as much cleaner and more comfortable than a comparable conventional system.

Most passive solar homes also have passive solar hot water heaters, further reducing costs and decreasing their reliance on non-renewable resources. Passive solar water heaters are generally of one of three varieties: flat plate, evacuated tube, or batch heaters. Batch heaters seem to be the most popular, and they are a relatively easy-to-do project if you choose to build your own. You can purchase…or often find for free…a salvaged electric hot water tank thoroughly sealed and painted black. Then, add some new fittings and pipe. Encasing it in an insulated plywood box, it is glazed, or covered with fiberglass, glass, or high temperature resistant molded plastic. Placed in a location…inside or out depending on your climate…the sun heats the water either completely or partially. The most effective design to date appears to be placement of the upright tank at an angle. The heated water from the tank is piped either into an auxiliary tank for complete heating, or, in warm locations, used directly from the batch tank. It is simple, extremely effective, and once again, completely passive energy.

Batch heaters, sometimes called breadbox heaters because of their design, can be used in stages as well. Utilizing more than one tank, and then taking advantage of the sun’s angle at various times of the day, the home owner can take advantage of the hottest water created by the sun’s rays. Flat plate and evacuated tube are also often found in solar passive homes, but their designs normally call for professional installation, and they can be less effective.

You probably already got it by now…there are lots of pros to going solar. And here are a few more to add to it. Solar energy isn’t going to cause headlines when it spills out into the ocean and creates miles and miles of oil slick, and changes the whole balance of nature for years. It isn’t going to create headlines when it collapses and buries dozens of miners far below the ground. Using sunshine for energy isn’t going to destroy businesses, or damage our fragile environmental ecosystem. Nor does solar energy create smog, or acid rain.

When you really stop and think about it, there are so many “pros” to solar energy, it’s hard to accept the fact that it’s taken us this long to discover…or rediscover…how to receive and use the sun’s energy without resistance.

Wind power structures have earned a great deal of popularity for past few years. The eco friendly systems along with the fresh and natural energy that it creates are the grounds for its popularity. Some scientists have expressed the opinion that wind power is far more advantageous than solar power as it’s still available even after the sun sets. Wind power is a free energy source and it eleminates the use of any material for generating energy. Still, wind power energy has its drawbacks, there’s a high cost required in setting up these wind turbines adding onto that, the need for the right position to be set up needs to be taken into consideration. Wind energy is not that simple when it comes to installation and can be quite complicated.

Most of the systems require maintenance on a regular basis and as well as the replacing of particular parts. These parts such as battery packs are quite costly. One of the disadvantages of wind energy is depending on the unpredictable nature of producing energy. The potential of wind energy relies on the speed of wind, if the wind slows down the entire system will not work near it’s capacity. Only in certain parts of the United States will there be continuous wind energy available. In terms of the other areas, it s not feasible to switch to wind energy even if it is cost effective. In case the wind is not steady, there should be backup resources available generating the demand.

The other disadvantage of wind energy is that it s often located in remote regions; this increases the costs of transmitting the energy that s produced in these farms. Wind energy needs to be received by a large number of people if it were to be useful. Adding onto this, transporting this type of energy may not be that easy. Wind resource development may be a contest for other uses of land. Instead of apportioning the land for wind energy it can be used for generate something more crucial to the nation.

There is a particular level of pollution from wind energy plants although it is just a fraction when compared to other energy generation methods. The noise that s produced by the rotor blades can create aesthetic optical impacts and sometimes birds get killed by flying into these rotor blades. Wind farms take up a lot of space in order to be setup, in states where space is limited this is not favorable. Wind energy requires external power source or an additional rotor so that it can start to work. These are the few disadvantages of wind energy which could affect its consumption.

Do you have curb lighting, driveway lighting, or patio lights at your home? If so, I'll bet they're solar.

Do you have curb lighting, driveway lighting, or patio lights at your home? If so, I’ll bet they’re solar.

Solar lights increase visibility and safety. They’re highly cost effective and can make a significant difference in your energy bill. With no electrical wires, or plug-ins necessary, they can be placed anywhere in your landscaping that you desire. They’re weatherproof and require little or no maintenance. You can have bright light or low light, depending on the number of LEDs used, and the fixture in which it is contained.

There’s an incredible selection of outdoor solar lighting on the market today. There are lady bugs, lights that look like Japanese paper lights, and other luminaries, along with a myriad of other styles and designs. They’ve become so popular, in fact, it’s hard to find a home that doesn’t have any.

Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, solar energy lights are increasingly becoming beautiful, affordable garden art. LED lights and solar-rechargeable AA batteries are being placed in fixtures with designs by some incredibly imaginative artists. Whatever mood you want to create…from the most romantic to the most frivolous…you can decorative with garden art in your landscape to set the stage. And…you can do it without having maximum-minimum spacing, electrical lights, extension cords or plug-ins.

Would you like to be the artist? You can certainly become one, creating the perfect setting for the scene you want with the placement of your decorative lights. You can also change your look, whether you want an elaborate design, or something more whimsical. You can move easily from the setting of the sun into the darkness of night. You can create the theme you want for any event, with the lighting that best accents and captures your desired mood.

From fireflies to Calla-Lillies, Finials, Fuchsia Finials, to the beautiful Soji Lanterns, Allsop Gardens has solar lighting artistic creations to please the most discriminating decorator.

And if you go to the Solar Light Store, you’ll see that they carry solar path lights, solar spotlights, and solar tube lights, along with lots of other solar lighting choices.

Look for solar stepping stones to pave your lighted way across your yard. Solar stepping stones make it easy to see where you’re going. You can see the path ahead, and you can easily move across a darkened yard without a flashlight. Not only is this better for you, it also helps the person who might be walking behind you, who might easily be stumbling along unable to see if you were the person in the lead with the flashlight.

Helping ensure your home can be easily found is another great use for solar lights. A solar lighted house number turns on automatically after dark, and makes it an easy find for emergency providers when there’s an accident, or a medical emergency, or fire. They’re great gifts for parents, especially if they’re living on their own, and might someday really need help, but can’t get to the yard light to get it turned on. On more than one occasion, an easily visible address marker has saved a life.

Another great invention in solar lighting can be found in solar powered security lights. Whether it’s your remote mountain cabin, or on the front of your own home, you’ll always have a security light, with or without electrical power.

Whatever budgetary goals you may have, you’ll find that decorative solar lighting will fit your needs, and any style you desire.

OK, yes, you can go hog wild over decorative solar lighting. You can have fireflies in every tree, a turtle on every rock, soft romantic lighting around your hot tub, and a light-strewn pathway that will ensure no visitor, guest, or family member will trip for lack of lighting.

And what about your water feature? Why not have some beautiful solar spotlights, rock-encased, that light up your waterfalls or whatever water feature you’ve created in your yard. Why just enjoy your water feature in the daylight, when solar lighting can allow you to enjoy it throughout the after-dark hours.

And what’s the very best part? Decorative solar lighting doesn’t require you to do anything…no action needed. Solar lights will capture and store light all through the day, then, when it turns dark, your solar lights will turn on automatically. When it’s morning, and daylight is back, they turn off automatically, and start storing light again. Plus, the biggest bonus…while all of this is happening your utility meter isn’t moving because of your solar lights…not one bit.
