Do you feel out of control when your electricity bills keep rising? I know I did. I used to try and ration the power I used at home to try and save a bit of money. But still those wretched bills seemed to go up every quarter.
Then in addition to the ever rising electricity prices our wonderful state government decided to slap a compulsary ambulance charge on each quarterly electric bill because the ambulance service was running out of money.
What has electricity got to do with ambulances you ask? Absolutely nothing! It was the only way the government could bill as many people as possible.
Then we had our electicity de-regulated to let private companies buy and sell electricity. This was supposed to bring the power bills down. Did it? Of course not! Up they went yet again!
There is a point when you have to say “Enough!” You have to take charge of the problem and solve it. I wasn’t going to pay any more of their huge bills. I would generate my own electricity! But how?
There was a scheme available whereby I could purchase a solar electricity grid and generate my own solar power. This sounded good until I discovered the price. It was over $8,000.00 and I simply didn’t have that kind of cash.
Refusing to give up I continued my research. That’s when I discovered “Earth4Energy” written by Michael Harvey which teaches you how to build your own solar panels and wind generators from scratch for very little money. Just what I was looking for! But could I actually do this? I wasn’t very handy L
Still I was determined. I can always return the book if it doesn’t work, I thought. So I purchased “Earth 4Energy” and followed the instructions step by step. You don’t need expensive tools and in fact the whole exercise cost me around $200.
I no longer dread getting that quarterly power bill, they’re next to nothing now. What’s more I have a real feeling of achievement from having actually built something that works! Also in a small way I’m helping the earth by generating my own renewable energy!
There are a few similar books out there which tell you how to do this but Earth4Energy comes with it’s own helpful videos which makes the process a lot more simple, sometimes it’s easier to learn by watching than by reading.

PS — When you have enough power off grid you can sell any extra back to the grid. Imagine making money from the power companies instead of paying them! (I haven’t reached this stage yet but I will!)
