Alternative Sources Of Energy Can Save The Planet

Alternative sources of energy

You may feel overwhelmed or even depressed by all the talk about global warming and the energy crisis, I know I do sometimes. However worrying about the situation helps nobody and although it’s fine to feel concerned about the health of our planet, it’s worth remembering that even though electricity, petrol, diesel and gas may be sky-rocketing, there are alternative sources of energy which can help both the environment and our wallets, both now and into the future.

Alternative sources of energy are limited only by our imagination

Although alternative energy sources  such as geothermal energy, and wind power are still in their infancy, already there are some innovative ideas coming out. Solar panels for instance, have been with us for a while and are appearing on more and more buildings and even in solar farms. Mankind can be pretty inventive and we should have confidence that new alternative energy ideas will be continuing to evolve as more people become interested and involved in this growing industry.alternative sources of energy

So although it’s easy to become frustrated at the reluctance of certain sections of society such as politicians to embrace the unstoppable wave of green thinking that is sweeping our world, we should instead try to be positive and trust that common sense well eventually prevail. If you feel strongly about global warming, realize that not everyone agrees about this subject and the opposition does have a right to their views. Eventually those with vested interests in fossil fuels and the doubters who simply don’t want to know, will open their minds.

Meanwhile what can the individual do? If you feel that the problem is just too big and there’s nothing you can do to help, think again! Great things are achieved by many people making small improvements on a regular basis, so here’s a few ideas. Some of you will consider these rather obvious, but for those who are just learning about green living and saving the planet, they may be just the inspiration you need.

Do I have to generate my own alternative sources of energy?

You don’t have to start with generating your own alternative sources of energy if you can’t afford it at this time, or if it’s simply not possible. Instead you can help by simply using less energy, or try to use alternative sources of energy in other ways. Everyone can do this without it significantly impacting on their lifestyle.

Before you jump in the car to run a small errand, try to think what else you can do at the same time. Using your car less will save a lot of fuel over the weeks and months. Catch public transport if you possibly can or consider buying a bicycle and get fit! You will not only save on fuel, but also on a gym membership.

Turn lights off when leaving a room and make sure all light, including outside lights are turned off at night. If you work in an office building where management insist on burning lights all day, make sure they are aware of the cost savings of energy saving lighting.

If your supermarket still offers plastic bags, choose to use reusable green bags instead. Turn all your appliances off at the power points at night and question whether you really need that enormous TV screen. All small things but they can add up to substantial savings over time and in your own way you will be helping, so give yourself a pat on the back!

Alternative sources of energy are growing and evolving at a rapid pace and we can feel confident that they are here to stay.
